Drayage/Material Handling

 Defining Drayage

Q) What is material handling, and who is responsible for this function?

A) In the trade show industry, material handling - also known as drayage - is the movement of your exhibit materials to and from your exhibit space. The term refers to a wide range of handling services, including the unloading of your freight from the delivery truck; the removal of empty crates, pallets, and cartons after the show; and the out-bound loading of your truck.

A form for this service, which is included with pre-show exhibiting materials, should be completed by the exhibit manager and returned to show management or the material-handling contractor prior to the trade show. In most cities, a union has jurisdiction in material handling.
